As tax season ramps up, Americans are turning to their smartphones for tax preparation and planning. Sensor Tower provides a glimpse into the performance of the top tax-related applications on the iOS platform in the United States for the first quarter of 2021.
TurboTax: File Your Tax Return from Intuit Inc. saw a significant increase in downloads, starting the quarter with 109K and peaking at 362K in early February. Weekly active users followed a similar trajectory, growing from 536K to over 1.1M in the same period. Revenue showed an upward trend as well, with a notable peak at 353K USD in mid-March.
The IRS2Go app, developed by the Internal Revenue Service, experienced its highest downloads in late February with 316K, after starting the quarter at 169K. Active users showed a steady increase, reaching a high of 1.89M towards the end of February.
For MyBlock by HRB Tax Group, Inc., downloads peaked in early February at 58K, while weekly active users saw a steady rise, with a maximum of 106K in mid-March.
The H&R Block Tax Prep: File Taxes app also displayed growth, with downloads reaching 31K in early February and weekly active users peaking at 21K in the same period. Revenue for this app followed a similar pattern, with a peak of 262K USD in mid-March.
Lastly, TaxCaster: Tax Calculator, another Intuit Inc. offering, saw downloads peak at 17K at the end of January. Weekly active users reached their highest at 14K around the same time.
